Visual Strategies used during the performance of an obstacle course

چکیده
Vision is the sense that provides precise information about one’s position in the environment in relation to objects. The visual system is essential to guide people safely when moving around in the environment. The perception that an individual gets from a particular scene of her/his surroundings is accomplished by eye movements. The current study aims to identify differences in visual strategies between 15 women and 15 men within the age range of 18-24 years, who have been given a task to walk through an obstacle course drawn on the laboratory ́s floor. They should start and finish at a predefined location. Twelve pylons were used as obstacles to be avoided during the walking. The participants' eye movements were recorded using the Mobile Eye model 1.35. The Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney Test was used for the statistical analysis. Significant differences occurred between men and women, in the duration of fixations: the men spend more time observing the finishing area than women (z=-1.929, p=.054); and in the number of fixations: before starting the task, the men fixate more often the middle phase of the obstacle course (z=-2.085, p=.037). Once they commence, the women fixate more the points outside the obstacle course than the men (z=-2.093, p=.036).

The effects of Ramadan fasting on physical field-expedient measures in army cadets
Background and Objectives: Given the limited number of studies on Ramadan fasting and military performance, we conducted this study to identify the effect of Ramadan fasting on physical fitness performances in army cadets. Methods: Twenty healthy males were randomly selected from a larger sample group. The subjects were divided into fasting (n=10) and non-fasting (n=10) groups. They performed v...
متن کاملBelievable Visual Feedback in Motor Learning Using Occlusion-based Clipping in Video Mapping
Gait rehabilitation systems provide patients with guidance and feedback that assist them to better perform the rehabilitation tasks. Real-time feedback can guide users to correct their movements. Research has shown that the quality of feedback is crucial to enhance motor learning in physical rehabilitation. Common feedback systems based on virtual reality present interactive feedback in a monit...
متن کاملAssessment of Balance Recovery Strategies During Manipulation of Somatosensory, Vision, and Vestibular Systems in Deaf Persons
Purpose: Sensory systems play an essential role in motor control. The lack of information about each of these systems can affect postural sway. This study aimed to assess balance recovery during the manipulation of somatosensory, visual, and vestibular systems in deaf persons. Methods: Thirty healthy and deaf subjects were selected as samples. Balance recovery strategies in various situations ...
متن کاملAutomatic tuning of a behavior-based guidance algorithm for formation flight of quadrotors
This paper presents a tuned behavior-based guidance algorithm for formation flight of quadrotors. The behavior-based approach provides the basis for the simultaneous realization of different behaviors such as leader following and obstacle avoidance for a group of agents; in our case they are quadcopters. In this paper optimization techniques are utilized to tune the parameters of a behavior-bas...
